Independent Professional Advisor for Future School Reform: Call for Children & Young People’s Organisations Views response February 2026

In July 2025, the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills appointed Mr. Wilson to provide independent advice on future school reform, with a particular focus on school improvement, school funding and school governance. This work will help shape future reform activity and support the Scottish Government’s commitment to delivering a high quality, inclusive education system that meets the needs of every child and young person.

As part of this process, Mr. Wilson is gathering evidence from learners, parents and carers through organisations such as ours. This call for information aims to ensure that the experiences and perspectives of those who use Scotland’s education system are meaningfully reflected in his recommendations. These recommendations will be presented to Scottish Ministers in March 2026.

We submitted our response on behalf of our membership, focusing our feedback on two of the three key areas: Improvement and Funding. You can download our full response below.
