Membership for students
If you are a student you can register as an associate member. Membership is free. With a membership you can take advantage of the host of member benefits.
How to register
- Confirm your course tutor is happy to act as your application referee.
- Complete the CLD Standards Council student application form
- Go to i-develop
- Create an i-develop account and submit the form.
If your course tutor is not able to act as your referee
Use the standard application form you will find on the i-develop registration page (under item 2) and ask a practice colleague, placement supervisor or volunteer support officer to act as your referee.
Resources for students
CLD Professional Practice Placement
Students on Professionally Approved courses should follow the Professional Practice Placement Standards. This provides guidance to what you should expect from your placement and who is responsible for what during your placement as well as templates to use. The document was created in partnership with Higher Education, Further Education and representatives from employers and practice supervisors in CLD.
Professional Learning
As part of your CLD Standards Council registration commitment, you are required to undertake a certain amount of professional learning each year. We have developed a range of materials which you can use to help you record and reflect on your professional learning.
Our Supporting Professional Learning Together offer gives you access to CLD Standards Council Buddies, Mentors and/or Professional Learning Verifiers. It also helps broaden your network through #CLD Standards CouncilConnectors and the CPD Discussion forum.
And we also provide a range of professional learning opportunities which you can take part in. You’ll find them in a variety of places, including i-develop and our monthly Member Meet-Ups.
i-develop
i-develop supports creative and innovative professional learning and development for CLD practitioners. It integrates the theories and practices such as peer support, communities of practice, learning journeys and reflection-in-action, in order to shape and support a learning community of practitioners across CLD in Scotland.

i-develop also holds research material such as a doctoral thesis and 2 Masters dissertations and from members. (Search for thesis or dissertation on the “search group spaces” option).
Ethical Practice – Competent Practitioners
Ethical Practice – Competent Practitioners is a learning resource around the Code of Ethics with key learning points and points for reflection, sections on why it matters and what we mean by ethics, as well as worksheets for each ethic, taking each ethic in turn.
