Community Right to Buy Response Submitted October 2025
As outlined in the Programme for Government 2024–2025, the Scottish Government has committed to undertaking a comprehensive review of the current four Community Right to Buy (CrtB) options. The consultation sought to identify and evaluate potential improvements to the CRtB process, with the aim of enhancing its effectiveness and accessibility at every stage—from application through to acquisition and implementation.
The CLD Standards Council hosted a “Have Your Say” online session, where we were joined by members of Scottish Government’s Community Land Policy Team, which provided valuable opportunity for members to explore the consultation questions in detail and hear from the policy team who outlined the current options and proposed changes. Members shared their expertise and practical experience of supporting community ownership initiatives and their contributions during the session helped shape a well-informed and constructive response to the consultation, grounded in the practical challenges and opportunities faced by the communities we work alongside. Members participation was vital in ensuring that practitioner perspectives were well-represented and that the future of CrtB reflects the genuine needs and aspirations of Scotland’s communities.
