Having recently undertaken Anti-Racist Training with Education Scotland, Vikki Carpenter, CLD Standards Council Development Officer, John Galt Education Scotland CLD Officer, and Richard Bryce, Senior Lifelong Learning and Communities Officer are developing an Anti-Racist Toolkit for CLD practitioners. Join them to discuss what you already do within your practice that supports Antiracism, as well as enquire about the barriers that you may face and what you feel is needed in this toolkit to make this a useful resource for CLD practitioners.
Have Your Say – Proposed Youth Work (Scotland) Bill - Mon, 27th Jan 12.00
CLD Standards Council will discuss the draft proposal for a Youth Work (Scotland) Bill by MSP Martin Whitfield. We will be looking at the consultation in relation to both the Independent Review of CLD Still Report, and the recent HMIE “Evaluation of Community Learning and Development in Scotland”. We want to hear from you, so join us to discuss probable requirements regarding legislation, financial implications and the need for improved funding, and possible implications for CLD Standards Council work.
Member Meet Up – Rural Practitioner Network - Thu, 30th Jan 15:30
The Meet-up will focus on the development of a Rural CLD Practitioner Network and will be hosted by colleagues from Argyll and Bute Council/Live Argyll, following on requests for support regarding needs specific to working in rural settings. We will explore the need for a network and identify how to take this forward., as well as further explore suggested topics for network meetings. We would love you to join in and bring your unique experiences of working in rural CLD!
We will be hosting a stall at The Gathering on 4 and 5 February at EICC, Edinburgh.
The Gathering is the largest free voluntary sector event in the UK. It is an opportunity for all the amazing people working in and with the voluntary sector to network, showcase what they do and learn from each other.
As well as bringing you a packed programme of workshops, seminars and activities – including online sessions for the most popular events at the Gathering Extra – you will find a wide range of exhibitors from the voluntary, public and private sectors.

Member Meet Up – Towards a Dyslexia Friendly Scotland? – Mon 10 Feb 11am
The Meet-up will focus on the findings from Towards a dyslexia-friendly Scotland?, Scotland’s biggest-ever survey of its dyslexic population, and will be hosted by Dyslexia Scotland and the University of Glasgow.
Hear about the groundbreaking report by Dyslexia Scotland and the University of Glasgow, which sheds light on the lived experiences of individuals with dyslexia across Scotland. Launched at the Scottish Parliament, this in-depth research offers crucial insights into the challenges faced by Scotland’s dyslexic community, gathered through a national survey of over 1400 adults.
ED&I Members Forum – Islamophobia and difficult conversations – Wed 19 Feb, 10am
An input from Interfaith Scotland focussing on the core beliefs and cultural practices in Islam, emphasising the diversity within Muslim communities worldwide and in Scotland. We will also consider Islamophobia and how to understand and respond to harmful language directed at any group.
Have Your Say – HMIE Evaluation of CLD – Mon 24 Feb, 10.30am
This HMIE evaluation of community learning and development in Scotland: considers the CLD provision by local authorities and their partners.
Join us and meet with Robert and Sheila, two HMIE Inspectors, and find out more about this report and how it highlights where CLD leaders, staff, volunteers, and partners are having the greatest impact. They will also tell us how this report aims to highlight strengths of CLD such as how volunteers, local groups and voluntary organisations work to expand the range of social, educational and community opportunities across Scotland, as well as how the CLD sector is at the forefront of responding to wider changes in society, for example supporting new Scots or working with local organisations to enable communities to be more resilient towards emergencies such as flooding.
Member Meet Up – Listen up Speak up NSPCC, Thurs 13 Mar, 11am
It’s up to all of us to keep children safe. That’s why NSPCC is encouraging every adult in the UK to Listen Up, Speak Up. This workshop is aimed to helping boost adults’ confidence and knowledge on how to keep children safe, and what to do if they have a concern – its suitable for staff, volunteers and adults from the community!

Join us to launch this exciting new Anti-racist toolkit for CLD.
Find out how we took your suggestions from the EDI Forum in January and turned them into the toolkit.
The aim of this toolkit is to support practitioners to increase anti-racist learning within their own work with learners and communities, as well as support practitioners’ personal development of antiracist knowledge and understanding.
The toolkit comes with practical tips, session activities and discussion ideas to use with peers and with learners, as well as online CPD and signposting to some useful resources which support all our learning.
